TypeDB
Execute TypeQL queries and manage databases and users on a TypeDB server.
What can you do with TypeDB?
- Query Execution: Run TypeQL read, write, and schema queries
- Database Management: List, create, and delete databases
- User Management: List, create, and delete users
Install
Add this to your client's MCP configuration (Claude Desktop: claude_desktop_config.json; Cursor: .cursor/mcp.json; VS Code and others use the same "mcpServers" shape).

TypeDB MCP Server
An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that enables AI assistants to interact with TypeDB databases. This allows LLMs to execute TypeQL queries, manage databases, and manage users through natural language.
Available on Docker Hub: https://hub.docker.com/repository/docker/typedb/typedb-mcp
Features
- Query Execution: Run TypeQL read, write, and schema queries
- Database Management: List, create, and delete databases
- User Management: List, create, and delete users
Running the Server
docker run -p 8001:8001 typedb/typedb-mcp:<version> \
--typedb-address <address> \
--typedb-username <username> \
--typedb-password <password>
If you're running TypeDB server on localhost:
- replace
<address>withhttp://host.docker.internal:8000instead ofhttp://localhost:8000 - on Linux, add
--add-host=host.docker.internal:host-gateway
Using with Cursor IDE
- Start the MCP server (see above)
- Open Cursor Settings → MCP
- Add the server configuration. Create or edit
.cursor/mcp.jsonin your project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"typedb": {
"url": "http://localhost:8001/mcp"
}
}
}
- Restart Cursor or refresh MCP connections
- Start chatting! You can now ask Cursor to:
- "List all databases"
- "Create a database called 'mydb'"
- "Define an entity 'person' with attribute 'name' in database 'mydb'"
- "Insert a person with name 'Alice'"
- "Query all persons in the database"
Building from Source
Use podman or Docker to create a Docker image and push it to DockerHub:
podman login docker.io
VERSION=<desired version number>
podman build -t typedb/typedb-mcp:$VERSION .
podman push typedb/typedb-mcp:$VERSION
Frequently asked questions
What is TypeDB?
Execute TypeQL queries and manage databases and users on a TypeDB server.
How do I install TypeDB?
It runs on your machine. In Claude Code: claude mcp add typedb -- docker run -i --rm docker.io/typedb/typedb-mcp:1.0.2 --typedb-address --typedb-username --typedb-password. For other clients, paste the JSON configuration from this page into their MCP settings.
Does TypeDB need an API key?
Its registry entry lists no required key or secret. Some features may still need an account with the service it connects to.
Is TypeDB open source?
Its code is public on GitHub, but the repository does not declare a standard license.
Who maintains TypeDB?
It is published by typedb. AI.tn lists it but does not maintain or endorse it.
