Structural code intelligence over MCP: symbols, callers, imports and blast radius, 40+ languages.

Install

Add this to your client's MCP configuration (Claude Desktop: claude_desktop_config.json; Cursor: .cursor/mcp.json; VS Code and others use the same "mcpServers" shape).

NPM package @munhq/codeindex
Claude Code
claude mcp add codeindex -e 'CODEINDEX_WORKSPACE=<CODEINDEX_WORKSPACE>' -e 'CODEINDEX_NO_DAEMON=<CODEINDEX_NO_DAEMON>' -e 'CODEINDEX_DAEMON_IDLE_SECS=<CODEINDEX_DAEMON_IDLE_SECS>' -- npx -y @munhq/codeindex@0.6.1
JSON configuration (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code)
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "codeindex": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@munhq/codeindex@0.6.1"
            ],
            "env": {
                "CODEINDEX_WORKSPACE": "<CODEINDEX_WORKSPACE>",
                "CODEINDEX_NO_DAEMON": "<CODEINDEX_NO_DAEMON>",
                "CODEINDEX_DAEMON_IDLE_SECS": "<CODEINDEX_DAEMON_IDLE_SECS>"
            }
        }
    }
}

Environment variables

  • CODEINDEX_WORKSPACE Directory to index. Defaults to the enclosing project root of wherever the client starts the server, which is the right answer for every editor and agent that launches it inside a repository. Set it only when the server runs somewhere other than the code.
  • CODEINDEX_NO_DAEMON Set to 1 to keep the index inside this server process. By default every session on one repository shares a single background daemon that parses and watches the tree once, and each session is a thin relay onto it. Turn that off for a sandbox with no writable runtime directory.
  • CODEINDEX_DAEMON_IDLE_SECS Seconds with no session attached before the shared daemon exits and returns its memory. Default 900. Set 0 to keep it resident.

Frequently asked questions

What is codeindex?

Structural code intelligence over MCP: symbols, callers, imports and blast radius, 40+ languages.

How do I install codeindex?

It runs on your machine. In Claude Code: claude mcp add codeindex -e 'CODEINDEX_WORKSPACE=<CODEINDEX_WORKSPACE>' -e 'CODEINDEX_NO_DAEMON=<CODEINDEX_NO_DAEMON>' -e 'CODEINDEX_DAEMON_IDLE_SECS=<CODEINDEX_DAEMON_IDLE_SECS>' -- npx -y @munhq/codeindex@0.6.1. For other clients, paste the JSON configuration from this page into their MCP settings.

Does codeindex need an API key?

Its registry entry lists no required key or secret. Some features may still need an account with the service it connects to.

Is codeindex open source?

Its code is public on GitHub, but the repository does not declare a standard license.

Who maintains codeindex?

It is published by munhq. AI.tn lists it but does not maintain or endorse it.

From the official MCP Registry. Listing is not an endorsement: review a server's code and permissions before giving it access to your data.
