Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http companydata https://companydata.com/mcp/ --header "x-api-key: your-api-key-here"

Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json):

{

    "companydata": {
      "url": "https://companydata.com/mcp/",
      "headers": { "x-api-key": "your-api-key-here" }

Cursor & Claude Desktop

  1. Build the project (npm run build).
  2. In your MCP host (e.g. Cursor Settings → MCP or Claude Desktop config), add a server (adjust paths):
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "companydata": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/companydata-mcp-server/dist/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "COMPANYDATA_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here",
        "COMPANYDATA_API_BASE_URL": "https://app.companydata.com"
      }
    }
  }
}
  1. Reload MCP / restart Cursor if needed.

Smoke checklist

  • Server starts without errors (npm run build && node dist/index.js with env set).
  • MCP host lists tools: company_search, company_enrich, field_lookup.
  • company_search returns 200 payload for a simple query (e.g. search=BoldData).
  • field_lookup returns city suggestions (e.g. search=amst).

Development without a separate build step:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "companydata": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["tsx", "/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/companydata-mcp-server/src/index.ts"],
      "env": {
        "COMPANYDATA_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here",
        "COMPANYDATA_API_BASE_URL": "https://app.companydata.com"
      }
    }
  }
}

CLI

After npm run build, the package exposes companydata-mcp when linked (npm link) or when node_modules/.bin is on PATH.

Distribution

  • Hosted: https://companydata.com/mcp/ (Streamable HTTP, stateless). The website serves the same tools from a copy of src/tools.ts.
  • npm: @companydata/mcp-server.
  • Official MCP Registry: com.companydata/mcp (see server.json).

Frequently asked questions

What is CompanyData?

Company search and enrichment from official business registers in 200+ countries.

How do I install CompanyData?

It runs as a remote server. In Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http companydata 'https://companydata.com/mcp/' --header 'x-api-key: <Your CompanyData API key (https://app.companydata.com/signup-api)>'. For other clients, paste the JSON configuration from this page into their MCP settings.

Does CompanyData need an API key?

Yes. It expects COMPANYDATA_API_KEY, x-api-key, which you set in its configuration.

Is CompanyData open source?

Its code is public on GitHub, but the repository does not declare a standard license.

Who maintains CompanyData?

It is published by companydatacom. AI.tn lists it but does not maintain or endorse it.

From the official MCP Registry. Listing is not an endorsement: review a server's code and permissions before giving it access to your data.
